Journeys around the Coast
Next series'Journeys around the Coast' are works produced during my intermittent visits from 1997 to 1998 to the south east coast of England, travelling through Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Kent, East Sussex and West Sussex.
“As the train pulls out familiarity begins to drop away. The journey encapsulates my dreams and my reality. I then find myself a room overlooking the sea. It is yellow, dark, well worn and grubby, I pull back the curtains and the street lamp casts a vivid green light across the room, and beyond, the dark sea rolls in. I step back...”
“It always begins with a journey, looking for one more possibility. I wandered out into the failing light, hedges line one side of the road, bungalows the other. A red light through a front door catches my eye. I crouch down, putting the camera to the ground, pressing the shutter I hold it for ten seconds or so.”
